赤柯山位於海岸山脈西側，與富里六十石山同為花東縱谷有名的金針山。赤柯山地勢較為平緩，沒有六十石山那種居高遠眺的震撼感，人潮、車潮也少了一些。難得海岸山脈在過午之後沒有被對流雲胞所籠罩，夏末的豔麗陽光灑在橙黃的金針與翠綠的青杉上，對比出飽滿、柔和的鮮明色彩。金針花只有在未綻放前才有食用與經濟價值，這麼迤邐綿延的金色花海，原本只是競爭不過進口金針的自由化悲歌，卻感動了溫飽已久開始追尋生活美學的台灣民眾。這些留置(或說棄置)開花的金針花田，是犧牲花農採收利益加上政府補助才有的美景。不過，與其讓縣府大員花公帑去拼外國的觀光，與其讓政府預算花在扞格不入或千篇一律的水泥建築上，還不如買下幾畝花田今年的收成，讓大家都有機會看到滿山金萱，為夏季譜出最炫麗的完結篇。
